How To See Deleted Messages In iPhone Whatsapp?

how to see deleted messages in iphone

Have you ever regretted accidentally deleting a WhatsApp chat? Wondering if there is a way out after hundreds of attempts to get it back? Here are some ways to help you. Below is a way to get back deleted WhatsApp chats.

We offer you a method to bring back WhatsApp chats written by iCloud or Google Drive backup. Keep in mind that you can only retrieve chats if you have turned on the backup option in the first place on WhatsApp before attempting to retrieve WhatsApp chats. This means that if you do not select a backup of your chats, you will not be able to recover accidentally deleted messages or chats.

Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a risk of losing some data in order to recover deleted WhatsApp messages. Follow the steps below only if you are willing to lose some data to get the data back.

Selecting Backup:

Open WhatsApp to turn on Chat Backup. Go to Settings> Go to Chats> Tap Chat Backup. Here you can set the frequency of your chat backup on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. Otherwise you can also backup manually. Additionally if you use an Android smartphone you will need to select a Google Account to store the backup. If you are using an iPhone then open WhatsApp> Go to Chats section> Open Settings in Chat Backup. You can select the auto backup frequency here or use the backup up navigation to manually start the backup to iCloud.

Recover WhatsApp chats deleted by cloud backup:

If you accidentally delete a chat, your cloud backup may contain a chat message. Suppose your Google Drive or iCloud backup happened at midnight and in the morning you accidentally deleted the chat. Chat is definitely still in the cloud backup. Follow the methods below to learn how you can get it back.

  1. Uninstall WhatsApp from your Android smartphone or iPhone.
  2. Reinstall WhatsApp and login with your phone number.
  3. The app will ask you to retrieve messages from the cloud backup after setup. This backup is from Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iOS. Press the Restore button.
  4. It will restore the messages you accidentally deleted. If you get a message after cloud backup and you delete it too, there is no way to get it back.

Restoring WhatsApp Chats Deleted Through Android's Local Backup:

Another way to try to restore deleted WhatsApp chats is to recover them from local backups on your Android phone. This method does not work on iOS. Follow these steps to rewrite deleted messages from your Google Drive backup.

  1. Go to your phone's file manager (if you can not find this app, download the Google Files app). Now go to WhatsApp folder> Open Database. The database folder contains all the WhatsApp backup files stored locally on your phone.
  2. Select the Msgstore.db.crypt12 file and rename it as msgstore_BACKUP.db.crypt12. This is your most recent backup file and you need to rename it to prevent it from being overwritten. You can rename and restore this file at any time if things go wrong.
  3. Now in this folder you will see some files in msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 format. These are your old WhatsApp backups. You can select the latest and rename it as msgstore.db.crypt12.
  4. Open Google Drive on your smartphone. Tap on the three-column icon> Backup option. Now delete WhatsApp backup there. It is possible to restore from a local backup.
  5. Now uninstall WhatsApp and then reinstall it. You will then be prompted to restore the chats from the local backup assuming that you do not have a chat backup in the cloud after completing the setup with your number.
  6. Tap on the Restore option. You will then get back the deleted chats.

These are two methods you can use in case you accidentally delete your WhatsApp chats or if you have just recently installed WhatsApp and want to restore your old chats. You need to turn on the chat backup option to restore any messages as mentioned above.
