During this spectrum auction, Reliance Jio will procure spectrum of Rs. 57,122 crore purchased. Airtel has achieved spectrum of Rs. 18,699 crore. The auction process has 77,815 bids worth Rs. Using the spectrum found in this auction, the companies would be able to do the 5g service trial.
Jio buys Rs 57,122 crore spectrum
Mukesh Ambani's company Reliance Geo has bought the highest spectrum in the two-day auction process. The auction of 2,250 MHz spectrum was started on Monday. The reserve price was about four lakh crore rupees. Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash said 855.60 MHz spectrum worth Rs 77,814.80 crore was purchased in the two-day auction. Reliance Jio bought spectrum worth Rs 57,122.65 crore. Vodafone Idea Ltd. bid for radio waves worth Rs 1,993.40 crore.
During the auction, bids came in 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2300 MHz bands. But there was no bid in 700 and 2500 MHz. Out of the total spectrum offered for auction, the share of spectrum of 700 MHz band was one-third. The spectrum was not sold at all in the 2016 auction. Analysts said other spectrum below the GHz band is available at a lower price. Most of the operators do not want to invest in the new spectrum, as they have to spend extra on equipments.
Airtel acquires Rs 18,699 crore spectrum
During the auction, Airtel has acquired radiowaves worth Rs. 18,699 crore. The company has given this information in a statement. It has said that the company has acquired 355.45 MHz spectrum, mid band and 2300 MHz band. This has given the company the strongest spectrum holding in the country. The company has said that it will succeed in providing 5g services in future.
The company says it has now got spectrum in the Gigahertz sub-sector across the country, which will now enable its services in cities to give good coverage inside homes and buildings. In addition, the telecom services of the company will also be better in villages from this spectrum.
