Govt Bans TikTok Snack Video App Just When Its Popularity Was Surging
On Tuesday evening, the country took action on another 43 mobile applications operating from China in terms of sovereignty, integrity and security. The Center said in a statement that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had banned the apps after discussing comprehensive reports from the Home Ministry-led Cyber Crime Coordination Center. The Center said the action was taken by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under Section 69A of the IT Act.
The decision by the central government came as a shock to the company at a time when snack video was booming in terms of downloads. According to the latest data from Censor Tower, Snack Video is one of the most downloaded apps. It has been downloaded on 190 million devices since the day TicTac was banned in India (June 29). The popularity of the snack video has grown significantly after the ban on ticks in India. It also surpassed the native app (Mitron TV, Chingari, Trail and Roposo). In the last 30 days, the snack video has been downloaded by 35 million people in India.
According to Censor Tower, downloads for Chingari, Mitron TV and Trail have dropped from millions to millions. In the last 30 days, the number of people who have downloaded Chingari, Trail and Mitron TVs is 8 lakhs, 3 lakhs, 55,000. Earlier this year, Quizhou Technology launched the Snack Video app. It is a Chinese company. This app is a competitor to the popular TickTalk app owned by Bydance on the global platform. It has long been available in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. It was banned by the Indian government yesterday even though it was not on the ban list imposed by the Indian government in June.
