The Trump administration has granted seven days to the Chinese app Tiktok to sell its American business. This video sharing app is owned by Chinese company BiteDance. Giving information on Wednesday, the US Treasury Department said that, "The Committee on Foreign Investment Affairs has approved the extension, and now the time till December 4 has been given."
Citing concerns about national security, the Trump administration ordered Bytdance to sell its US business by 12 November. The deadline was then extended to November 27 to reach an agreement with buyers. If the Chinese company is no longer able to sell its business by December 4, then Tiktok may be banned in the US. However, a legal battle has also been started by ByteDance to avoid the ban.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning Tiktok on August 6. In this, Tiktok was asked to sell its business within 90 days or to surrender its baggage to the US. The Trump administration had alleged that China could tamper with US citizens' data through Tiktok, though Tiktok has always denied this.
