Airbags will no longer be mandatory for the front seat of the passenger seat for all cars, including the economy model. It is learned that the airbag rule has been made mandatory for the driver's seat from July 1, 2019. The government has issued a draft notification to amend the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) on safety based on the recommendations made by the High Level Technical Committee on Vehicle Standards. ‘There is a global consensus on maximum safety standards to protect people in vehicles during an accident. We have made it clear that there will be no compromise on security standards regardless of cost, ”government officials said. Credible sources said that the Union Ministry of Surface Transport is working hard on these new regulations. Commented that these regulations would take a year to implement. The current regulation that makes a single airbag mandatory is not sufficient because it can also cause serious injury or death in the accident of a co-passenger in the front seat.
Features like low speed speed alert, reverse parking sensors, seat-belt reminder are standard features in vehicles. However the airbag has so far not been mandatory as a key safety criterion for front seat passengers. The amendment proposed to AIS that child lock systems should not be allowed on four-wheeled vehicles used for commercial purposes. Thousands of lives are lost in road accidents every year.
Whatever the cause of the accidents .. the loss of life is happening due to not taking proper precautions. The central government has taken this matter seriously and has made airbags mandatory from July 2019.
Vehicles belonging to several companies currently in the domestic market offer airbag facility. But some vehicles offer only a single airbag so there is no chance of more than one person getting out in the event of an accident. Basic models of major companies' cars do not have the original airbag facility. These cause more damage.
