First UPI ATM Customers with Cardless Cash-With-Draw Facility

Hitachi Payment Services: Financial services in India are being revolutionized. Regulatory bodies are making financial transactions more secure, convenient and flexible. Recently Hitachi Payment Services, a subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd., in collaboration with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has launched India's first UPI ATM, White Label ATM (WLA). UPI ATM offers cardless cash withdrawal services. Money can be withdrawn without physical debit or credit cards.

UPI ATMs provide users with the facility to withdraw cash without the need for physical debit or credit cards. You can draw cash from multiple accounts using the UPI app. Such white label ATMs play a vital role in areas operated by non-banking entities, where traditional banking infrastructure and card usage are limited. UPI ATM is designed to provide financial accessibility to all.

UPI ATM card skimming prevents common types of financial fraud. Since no physical card is used, it is not possible for others to collect the card information including PIN, card number, and the risk is greatly reduced.

How does an ATM work?

On going to the UPI ATM, the touch panel welcomes you, displaying 'Welcome to UPI ATM'.

Then tap on the 'UPI Cardless Cash' option and a window will open with various cash amount options.

Users can select preset amounts like Rs.100, Rs.500, Rs.1000, Rs.2000, Rs.5000, or enter a different amount.

After selecting the desired amount, a QR code will be displayed on the screen.

Users need to open their UPI app (BHIM, ZIP, PhonePay, Paytm) and scan the QR code.

The app then asks users to select a bank account and confirm the withdrawal.

After confirming the transaction, UPI will ask to enter the PIN.

After the confirmation message is sent, 'We are processing your transaction' will be displayed at the top of the screen.

UPI will provide the amount entered at the ATM within seconds. A cardless cash transaction is complete.

Different from other ATMs..

Presently cardless mode cash withdrawal process is based on mobile numbers and OTPs. Transactions with UPI-ATM use QR codes. These can be scanned using UPI applications installed on Android or iOS devices. UPI ATM is built on Android operating system. At present, Hitachi Payment Services is the only WLA operator. It also offers a cash deposit function. Has access to more than 3000 ATM locations.
